The Great Macho Temple

Macho temple is a Taoist temple that is a place for worship and offerings. It is located in Ma-Cho temple driveway, Quezon Ave., San Fernando City, La Union. Our groupmates departed to Macho Temple around 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Macho Temple is 10-15 minutes away from San Juan City, La Union. In the Chinese hierarchy of folk deities, Macho or “Matzu” is the powerful queen of heavens and protector of the sea. Matzu is the patron saint of fishermen and overseas Chinese.

The Macho Temple is a 2 storey building that has a number of 18 Chinese saints in different poses by the wall of the entry way to the large courtyard with nice fishponds. It was built on a large 1 hectare land 70 feet above sea level, overlooking the sea on September 11,1975. On its interior design, it has like a spider type dome with intricate details carved on it. There is also a belief that whoever enter a Taoist temple can communicate with the gods. It also shares a connection with the Catholic patron saint, Our Lady of Casaysay in Taal town.

What type of clothes should I wear?

The type of clothes that you should wear must be preserved. Slippers, shorts are not allowed. Since Macho Temple is a sacred place and is used for worshipping, we must strictly observe the proper decorum upon entering its premises.

Does it have an entrance fee?

No. It doesn’t. You can enter it freely.

What are the things to do?
